Brady’s Bulldog track team placed fourth at the annual Bluebonnet Relays in Brownwood last Friday and Saturday against some strong competition. The weather was not conducive to a track meet with temperatures in the 50s and a cold north wind. Abilene Wylie won the Division III by amassing 167 points. Second place was Burnet with 144.5. Everman was third with 109. Brady was fourth with 66 points. Others were 5. Breckenridge, 59; 6. San Angelo Central JV, 41; 7. Early, 13.5; 8. Abilene Cooper JV, 12; 9. Brownwood State School, 4; and Harker Heights JV, 3. Sophomore quartermiler Jess Anderson got Brady’s only first place finish, winning his speciality in 53.02 seconds. Another highlight for the Dogs was their second place finish in the 1600-meter relay. The foursome of Anderson, Chris Airheart, Paden Behrens and Jeffery Bierman ran a respectable 3:35.06. Burnet’s unit, led by super juniors Stephen McGee and Jordan Shipley, won the race in 3:32.24. Other Brady point-getters were Levi Bandy, third in the pole vault, 11-6; C.J. Villegas, fifth in the long jump, 18-9 3/4, and third in the triple jump, 40-3 1/4; Montie King, fourth in the 3200, 11:05.61, and fourth in the 1600, 4:58.74; and Behrens, third in the 300 hurdles, 43.30. The Bulldog 800-meter relay team of Villegas, Acie Morvan, Channing Booker and Bierman was fourth in 1:34.27, and the 400-meter relay team of Morvan, Lance Owens, Villegas and Booker was fifth in 46.35. In the JV boys’ Division II (Class 2A and below, and 4 A, 3A JV teams), the Bulldogs placed seventh with 24 points. Cisco was the champion with 136 points, followed by Coleman, 130. Other finishers were 3. Roscoe, 119; 4. Jim Ned, 103; 5. Brownwood JV, 40; 6. Hamilton, 25; 7. Brady, 24; 8. San Saba, 19; 9. Millsap, 12; 10. Early JV, 1. Top finisher for Brady was Lance Andrews, who was third in the triple jump with a leap of 39-4 1/2. He also was fifth in the 200, 24.56. Others placing were John Vara, fifth in the discus, 113-9; Sterling Sammons, fifth in the pole vault, 9-6; Brandon Airheart, fifth, triple jump, 36-5; Raul Gloria, fifth, 1600, 5:34.95. The 1600-meter relay team of Vara, Jesse Saiz, Hausten Russell and Justin Pollok were fourth in 3:52.35. The Bulldogs will be at Bangs Saturday for the Dragon Relays.
