With spring just around the corner everything is beginning to come alive out here at the course. With the warmer days and nights the grass has really started to turn green and Cheryl and I are just waiting for there to be a hint of green in our flower beds so we can get out there and do the gardening thing. Golfers have been out in large numbers this entire month with from 40 to 71 playing daily. I truly welcome the many golfers as it sure makes the days a lot more interesting than when it is so cold and lonely out here. Mowers are becoming a daily sight also and I do know that J.T. and Cheryl are dreading the long days of mowing. But they are also looking forward to the year. The March, Sunday Hully-Gully was also a big success. There was 32 people out competing for the first place spot. There were eight teams with there being four 4 person teams and four 5 person teams. Scores ranged from 56 to 64, with the Felix Ramirez team taking first place with the 56. The team consisted of Felix, Abel Muniz, Fernando Torres, Oscar Gracia and Lynette Blankenship. Congratulations team! That was a great score. The second place team with a 60 was Curtis Copeland, Rocky Jackson, Vince Jackson, Bobby Williams and Carla Landes. There was three 61’s, 62, 63 and a 64 score posted at the end of the day. Closest to the pin on hole 8 or 17 was won by Abel Muniz. Other players in the Hully Gully were David Graves, Donald Owens, Curtis Owens, Jayme Graves, Shane McCartney, Charlie Bush, Peanut Owens, Dannye Calley, Jimmy Fore, Billy Patterson, Joe Priddy, Kathy Powell, Terry Virdell, Brad Childs, Tom Hughes, Jason Young, Terri Virdell, Benton Franklin, David Brown, Swede Carlson, Denise Nichols, Kristi Freudenrich, Raymond Ledezma, Jack Roberts, Larry Mann and Christy Aranda. Hope to see all of you out playing again soon. The next scheduled Hully Gully will be Thursday, April 17 and will be a nine hole gully. The Brady High School Boys’ Golf team played host to seven other schools for the Brady Tournament on Tuesday, March 17. Schools represented were Brady Varsity team, Brady Junior Varsity team, Brady -3 Individual medalists, Bronte, Brookesmith, Eden, Mason, Panther Creek, Rochelle, and San Saba. With 49 young men out here competing on Monday it was quite a busy day. And I might add that it was a real pleasure to be treated with such respect and each and every student conducted themselves very professionally. And to each of you I say thank you for being such gentlemen! Brady Varsity did place first with a total team score of 312, team members were JimBob Shelby, Casey Long, Tim Walker, Michael Guiterrez and Ben Cruz. Congratulations guys! You make us so proud! Casey Long was the low score for the day with a 73 and I might add he was the #1 medalists. Also congratulations to Flemming Hightower who played on the JV team and with a low score of 76. Flemming was tied for second place medalist but lost on a playoff to Bronte’s Charlie Bettis. Dustin Jones is to be commended for his score of 78. The Bronte team won second place with a combined team score of 334. Congratulations Bronte. Other team scores were Brady JV-337, Rochelle-353, San Saba- 358, Eden-375, Panther Creek-385, Mason-388 and Brookesmith-493. In other golf course news, I would like to inform you that we now have new score cards. If you haven’t been out to play and haven’t seen the new cards you are really missing out as they are very classy with a picture off #1 tee box taken in the fall. I am very impressed with the new cards. We are approaching our first tournament of the year and if you haven’t signed your team up I encourage you to do that soon as we only have 13 spots open as of Tuesday. The Three-Person Tournament will be on April 12 and 13, and we are taking the first 44 paid teams. Well that about does it for this week and I will report news from out here as it occurs. Come out and see us when you can or even better come out and play a round of golf. Hope to see you soon.
