The Brady High School boys golf team took advantage of their home course Monday and won the Brady Invitational Golf Tournament by posting a team score three strokes better than the second place Bronte team. The Brady JV team fired a 337 which was good enough to put them in third place giving Brady two of the top three spots. Rochelle’s team of TK Morris, Eddie Teague, Tanner Stuart, Patrick Roberts and Jamey Williams posted a 353 for the day putting them in fourth place for the tourney. Individual scores were 85, 82, 99, 91 and 95 respectively. “My boys did all right, but I haven’t had much time to work with them this year due to illness and it shows,” said Rochelle coach Mike Gardner. After firing a 47 on the front nine, Morris regrouped and knocked nine strokes off the back nine and finished with a respectable 85. Attended by seven area schools, Brady’s 312 was a good score, but several varsity team members were dejected with their individual performances. “A triple bogey on a par three did not help my score at all,” said Brady senior Tim Walker. “I carded an 81 which is about 10 strokes higher than normal for me on this course.” Casey Long was the varsity team leader and first medalist for the tournament with a 73. Ben Cruz was next with a 77 followed by Jim Bob Shelby and Walker both with 81s. Michael Gutierrez carded an 87. “The varsity team posted a good score,” said coach Chris Huffman. “A 312 is a good score on any golf course. If we can do that during district, we will be very competitive.” On the JV team, Flemmon Hightower was the low scoring player with a 76. He tied with Bronte’s Charlie Bettis for second medalist, but lost the playoff. Other scores were: Joe David McKnight 84, Dustin Jones 78, Garrett Womack 106, Cody McKnight 99, Bodie Landes 96, Riley Schumann 99 and Justin Pollok 91. Results from the San Saba Tournament played recently are: Wylie 325, Brady 330, Comanche 332, Coleman 336, Llano 338, Early 344, Menard 345, Baird 355, Clyde 365, Ballinger 377, Ranger 393, Brownwood 396, Junction 415, Goldthwaite 426, Mason 429, Hamilton 441, Eastland 473, Eden 522.
