Jarrett Dawson, student Rotarian, makes first visit

The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, Feb. 12 at noon at the Caf’ at the Depot. Student Rotarian Jarrett Dawson was present for this first visit. He is the son of Cheryl and Joel Moreno. His siblings are Joel, Daniel and Michael Moreno. He is a member of the Christian Community Church. A senior at Brady High School, he is active in FCCLA, Interact, SPOOKS, One Act Play and Student Council. He is an A/B honor roll student, was named “Outstanding Student,” was nominated Texaco Star of the Week, attended the Lions Honor Banquet, was a competitor and third place winner in the STAR event and received the FCCLA Power of One Award. He is president of FCCLA, secretary for his senior class and is chairman for Ready Set Read. He plans to attend a two year college that specializes in the paramedic field. Rotarian Lynn Munden gave a brief resum’ of the Bike-a-thon that will be sponsored by the Brady High School Interact club on May 18. The proceeds from the event will go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. President Steve DeFiore reminded Rotary members that they will be responsible for putting up flags on Monday, Feb. 18 in honor of President’s Day. Program chairman Cynthia Quinn introduced Danny Neal, secretary for the Brady Golf Association. He explained the standing of the expansion of the golf course to 18 holes. The land has been purchased with a note for $130,000. Donations may be made at the Commercial National Bank. The Brady Economic Development Corporation (EDC) cannot contribute to financing a golf course. The $2 bill was won by Bill Mann for knowing that the Rotary Polio Plus Program resulted in reducing the cases of polio to about 3,500 worldwide. Program chairman for Tuesday, Feb. 19 is Jim Ricks.
