John Allen Richardson, 75

John Allen Richardson, 75, of Alice, died Feb. 7 at his home in Alice. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 9 at First Presbyterian Church of Alice, with Rev. Stephen W. Rehrig of First Presbyterian Church of Pasadena and the Rev. James Pohlhammer officiating. Burial followed at Alice Cemetery. Pallbearers were nephews, Jim Tiller of Rockport, Lee Tiller of Calallen, Travis Tiller of Alice and Richard Tiller of Gonzales, and Tommy Elliott of Houston and Randy Hill of Corpus Christi. Born Dec. 4, 1926, in Alice, he was the son of Amos Travis Richard-son and Bonnie Sain Richardson of Hebbronville. He was a farmer and rancher and taught science for more than 25 years before his retirement from teaching in 1980. He was a member and Ruling Elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Alice, serving on numerous occasions as Clerk of the Session. He was a member and/or chairman of the last four Pastor Nominating Committees and other committees and was a lifelong supporter of youth activities through education, 4-H and church. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he was honored in 2001 as a 50-year member of the Texas Farm Bureau and in 1990 was recognized by the Soil and Water Conservation District as “Outstanding Conservation Farmer of the Year” for Nueces, Kleberg, Jim Wells and Kenedy Counties. Richardson was a 1947 graduate of Texas A&M University where he was a member of F Company and B Cavalry in the Corps of Cadets. He was a member of the Association of Former Students of Texas A&M University and was named an honorary trooper of Parson Mounted Cavalry at Texas A&M in 1977-1978. He served in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean conflict. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Jacquelyn Harris Richardson of Alice; two daughters, Karen Richardson of Glen Rose and Bonnie Richardson Wilkinson and husband, Bill, of Victoria; a son, Jack Richardson and wife, Madelynn, of Brady; five granddaughters, Ashley Wilkinson and Whitney Wilkinson both of Victoria and Adele Richardson, Lee Richardson and Bonnie Richardson, all of Brady; a sister, Martha Richardson Tiller and husband, Jimmie, of Alice and a brother, Travis Sain Richardson and wife, Dorothy, of Pandora. The family requests that memorials be made to First Presbyterian Church, 77 North Adams, Alice, Tex. 78332.
