Interest grows as drag boats on display here

The first preview of what’s to come in June of 2002 got an overwhelming approval last Saturday when the Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Southern Drag Boat Association, displayed four boats at the local Wal-Mart. The preview was organized to entice the local community and highlight what’s in store for the upcoming and first annual event scheduled for June 1-2 at Brady Lake. “We had a lot of people show up to look at the boats,” said Chamber executive vice president DeLaine Poe. “I think everyone was very intrigued, especially when they revved up the motors. I sensed a lot of anticipation and excitement, and I think everyone is anxious for the event to get underway. “I was really amazed when one of the boat owners, the father/son team of Jim and Marcus Kinsey, donated T-shirts and koozies to the Famed Brady Bulldog Band Auction that was also going on that day. That was a real nice gesture, and I think the items went for $15 to $25 each.” “We had a lot of people that were driving through town and made the turn to come back and see what all the excitement was about. In addition, we picked up a major sponsor, Carquest Auto Parts, which has signed up to participate in this summer’s event.” Mrs. Poe added that more boats, in addition to the ones on display Saturday, will be back in Brady for a second preview during the annual car show scheduled for April 5-6 at Richards Park.
