The powerlifting teams (boys and girls) at Brady High School have been active in recent weeks under the tutelage of coach Doug Holtzclaw. The first meet of the season was held Jan. 19 at Llano. Abraham Cortez took first place in the 132-pound class with a total of 915 pounds. His squat was 370 pounds and added a bench press of 180 pounds. His dead lift was 365 pounds. Fidel Huerta took second place in the 220-pound class with a total weight of 1,190 pounds. He had a squat of 395 pounds, a bench press of 320 pounds and a dead lift of 475 pounds. Ohers competiting in the Llano meet were Allyosha Dotson, Erika Norton, Andrea Adame, Jordan Fisher, Cody Holubec, Tommy Langseth, Jeremy Shields, Casey Long and Nic Gonzales. The boys’ team was in Burnet for a powerlifting meet on Jan. 26 among tough 3A and 4A competition, Holtzclaw said. Nic Gonzales placed seventh with a total of 970 pounds. He squatted 350 pounds, bench pressed 220 pounds and had a dead lift of 400 pounds. Casey Long was eighth with a total of 955 pounds. He squatted 365 pounds, benched 230 pounds and had a dead lift of 360 pounds. Others competing in the Burnet meet included Cody Holubec, Jordan Fisher, Eric Kwast and Marcus Reed. The teams were at San Saba last weekend. Those results will be in Friday’s paper, Holtzclaw said.
