Rotary Spokes

The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, Jan. 29 at 12 noon at the Caf’ at the Depot. Student Rotarian Amy Pearson was present for her second visit. She informed the members that she intends to attend college, major in education and become a teacher/golf coach. Mike Schaffner had as his guests his wife, Betty, and his daughter, Marci. Rotarian Connie Locklear announced that the district Rotary birthday party will be held Feb. 8 at the Bentwood Country Club in San Angelo. Program chairman Lynn Munden introduced the BHS students who attended the RYLA conference recently in New Braunfels. They each gave a brief resum’ of the meeting. Counselors Chelsea Simpson and Brian Hovorak told of their responsibilities as counselors and helping the younger students. Also, they had interaction with other students from last year’s RYLA group. BHS ambassadors Thomas Castro, Erin Rainey and Megan Schaffner related their experiences at RYLA, i.e. being in groups of 10 with students from other Rotary Clubs (they were not together), early morning exercise, hearing talks from speakers about the 4-way test, their future, communications, leadership and working with others. The students were not ready to leave and really enjoyed the meeting. The $2 bill was won by Wadena McAlister who was the first to say that the Brady Rotary Club received its charter in March. Program chairman for Tuesday, Feb. 5 is Caroline Parks.
