JV Lady Dogs down Ingram, fall to Llano

Absent their regular coach on the sidelines, the Brady JV girls team continued on with their regular season schedule over the past two weeks. On the past two Tuesdays, the JV Lady Dogs posted a 29-20 victory over Ingram and then fell to the visiting Llano Yellowjackets, 39-18. Under the substitute leadership of coach Micki Templeton, the Lady Dogs started off slowly with only two points in the first quarter against Ingram, but over the next three periods, they pulled together to post the offensive points necessary for the win. “Once they relaxed and started palying ball, they did a great job,” said Templeton. “When we started we were in too big of a hurry. Once we slowed down and played under control great things started to happen for them. I was very pleased with the girls’ efforts and hustle.” “We still need to work on our blocking out and rebounding and on the defensive end of the floor. All they need to do is keep positive attitudes and work as a team.” Erica Hernandez was the high point scorer for the Ingram game with 15 points coming on five field goals, one three pointer and two of three from the free throw line. Other scorers: Savannah Hernandez 4, Dana Hagemann 7 and Kiwanna Holmes 3. Score by quarters: Brady 2 7 13 7’29 Ingram 5 6 4 5’20 H In their battle against the visiting Yellowjackets last Tuesday, the Brady JV girls failed to take advantage of 32 trips to the free throw line as they lost, 39-18. “We went 0/6 in the first, 5/10 in the second, 0/2 in the third and 0/14 in the fourth from the free throw line,” said coach Templeton. “The girls did a good job with their defense and they also did a great job of drawing the foul and getting to the free throw line. We just could not make them fall.” A good showing on offense in the second quarter made up for a sxoreless first as the Bulldogs pulled to within three at the half. Things went downhill from there for the Lady Dogs as their offense mustered only four points in the third and two in the fourth as the ‘Jackets lit up the boards with 24 second half points. Erica Hernandez was the high point scorer for the game with 10 points. Other scorers were: Chelsey Bandy 3, Dana Hagemann 1, Holmes 2 and Anna Zapata 2.
