The district’s second place team, Burnet, wore down the Brady Bulldogs to take a 70-50 win in a league basketball game here last Friday night. The contest completed the first round of district games with Wimberley on top at 5-0. Burnet is second at 4-1 while Liberty Hill follows with a 3-2 mark. Ingram is fourth at 2-3 while Brady is fifth at 1-4 and Llano is last at 0-5. “The kids played well,” Brady coach Shawn Dalbert said. “We led at halftime, 31-27, but the more powerful Burnet team outscored us in the third period, 27-14. Then in the fourth quarter, they outscored us, 16-5.” “They just wore us down,” the coach said. He said that the Burnet team went on a 5-0 run early in the third quarter “then before you knew it, they were up by 12. Our legs were gone. The seven guys that played for us were wringing wet after the game.” A pair of dandy sophomores, Stephen McGee and Jordan Shipley (Burnet’s quarterback and wide receiver, respectively in football), were just too much for the Dogs. McGee led all scorers with 22 points while Shipley was right behind with 21 points. McGee made 18 in the second half while Shipley had 13 of his 21 in the first half. C.J. Villegas and Luke Price led the Dogs in scoring with 15 and 14 points, respectively. Dalbert said his team must win the next three games in order to get in the hunt for a playoff berth. Brady is at Liberty Hill Tuesday (tonight). The Panthers won the last meeting, 67-55, in overtime. Score by quarters: Burnet 17 10 27 16’70 Brady 17 14 14 5’50 Brady scorers: C.J.
