Annual band auction will pay for activities

The annual Famed Brady Bulldog Band Auction will be filling the airways on Saturday, Feb. 9, beginning at 9:30 a.m. with hopes of setting a new record for the fund-raising event. “The Band Boosters use the money raised not only to help defray costs of the band’s activities, but also to purchase equipment, instruments and uniforms for the students,” said a Band Booster member. “The Band Boosters helped to install carpet in the Middle School band hall by matching funds raised by the Middle School band students during their sale of Red Wheel food items.” The popular radio auction will be hosted by KNEL and Classic Cable will air video footage of auction items to give prospective bidders a chance to view what will be auctioned. Along with the telephone auction, Sonic Drive-In proprietor Javier Paniagua will be donating half of Saturday’s proceeds to the fund-raising effort. Band members will be participating in the day’s work at the restaurant to help facilitate efficient service and to show their appreciation to Sonic for its continued support. Bids during the auction can be placed by phone at 597-2119 or may be faxed to 597-1925. The variety of items available for bidding will range from baked goods to the mystery dinner sponsored by the Band Boosters. This year’s Mystery Dinner offering will be “The Tragical Mystery Y Tour” and will be set in the theme of psychedelic ’60s. Band Booster officers are contacting local businesses for donations and would like to encourage anyone who would like to contribute any services or items to contact any Band Booster or KNEL at 597-2119. Donated items can be dropped off at the radio station or at the Brady High School band hall during the week prior to the auction. On the day of the auction, donated items should be taken to the Brady National Bank Community Room. In an effort to keep the auction running smoothly, parents of band members are asked to deliver their items as outlined by the following schedule: Sixth grade’8 a.m. Seventh grade’9 a.m. Eighth grade’10 a.m. Ninth grade’11 a.m. Tenth grade’12 noon. Eleventh grade’1 p.m. Twelfth grade’2 p.m. The Band Boosters will meet Monday, Feb. 4 at 5:30 p.m. in the BHS band hall to finalize plans for the upcoming event. Anyone interested in helping with the auction is encouraged to attend this meeting.
