Bulldog 7th girls take third at Wall tourney

Three consecutive trips to Wall for the Wall Invitational Tournament gave the Brady seventh grade girls a chance to post three more victories on the boards last week. In the first game against the Wall B team, the Brady girls shutout the Eagles with a 52-0 thrashing. Nine Brady girls posted points during the game led by Miranda Villarreal’s 10 and followed by Lindsey Rutherford and Tori Riddles each with eight. “This was somewhat a practice game for the girls,” said coach Mickey Holloway. “They were a pretty weak team and we were able to get some of our plays to work very well. The girls played hard the entire game and it showed.” Other scorers: Addison Doyal 2, Kelly Hyden 7, Brianna Ledezma 2, Amanda Vandine 7, Brittany Flores 4, Kayla McFarland 4. Score by quarters: Brady 18 6 9 19’52 Wall B 0 0 0 0’0 On Friday, the girls again traveled to Wall and played the Broncos from Sonora in round two of the tournament and fell to the opposing team, 34-21. Villarreal again led the scoring with 12 points followed by Rutherford with seven and Kelly Hyden with two. “We had quite a hard time scoring in this game. Sonora had a good team and we had a hard time holding their post player down. That post player scored 20 of their 34 points,” said Holloway. “The girls played hard, but just couldn’t get it together.” Score by quarters: Brady 4 11 2 4’21 Sonora 7 12 6 9’34 In their third and final game of the tournament on Saturday, the girls took on the team from Ozona and held on to a lead built early in the game to win, 29-25. “We did a better job in this game, but we allowed Ozona to outscore us in the last three quarters,” said Holloway. “We almost let them come up and beat us, but the girls kept on playing hard and they were able to hold them off.” The victory put the young Doggies in third place for the tournament. “The girls really enjoyed playing in the tournament and playing against teams not in our district,” said Holloway. Scorers for Brady: Hyden 10, Riddles 2, Carrie Lundgren 1, Flores 5, Rutherford 5 and Villarreal 6. Score by quarters: Brady 14 3 5 7’29 Ozona 2 6 6 11’25
