The Brady Bulldog cagers lost a heartbreaker here last Friday night, falling to Liberty Hill by a 67-55 decision in overtime. The contest was the opener of District 26-3A action. “The kids played hard,” Brady coach Shawn Dalbert said. “We had a chance to win this game, but inexperience and the fact that we didn’t execute down the stretch was our downfall.” After falling behind early in the ball game, the Bulldogs battled back and were ahead of the Panthers by seven at 49-42 with 1:45 left. “We just were not patient and we took shots from 15 feet instead of working the ball in and taking five footers,” the coach said. As it was, the Dogs had the opportunity to win the game in regulation, but two bad inbound passes were off the mark and the game ended at 50-50. Dalbert indicated that the overtime period was a nightmare. “We made some bad fouls and gave up 11 unanswered points in overtime. That was due to inexperience. We talked about recognizing situations afterwards,” he said. Brady’s Blake Andrews poured in 16 points, but most of those were in the first half. C.J. Villegas led the Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points. “We lost to Liberty Hill by 30 points last season so we are closing the gap,” Dalbert pointed out. “We have improved greatly over last year.” The Bulldogs will be at Ingram Tuesday (tonight) and will host Wimberley here on Friday.
