With paybacks on their mind, the Brady eighth grade girls headed to Llano Monday and took revenge on the Yellowjackets as the A team pounded the home team, 37-9. As the only team to outscore the young Doggies so far this season, the A team used a full court press for the entire game to pay back the Jackets for their 35-30 loss earlier in the season. “We fell to Llano 35-30 in the first game of the season and we haven’t lost since then,” said coach Misti Kilgore. “We have practiced with Llano in the back of our minds for the past two months. It was our goal to beat them and beat them badly. “These are not only the most talented girls I have coached, but also the most determined. They did not enjoy the feeling of losing and I don’t think they will lose again without a fight.” The Bulldogs came out of the gates strong and never looked back. They blasted the Llano defense and racked up 25 first-half points while they held them to a mere seven. The scoring for Brady wasn’t nearly as prolific in the second half, but the Brady defense all but shut the Jackets down as Llano managed only one single bucket in the entire second half. “We missed a lot of free throws and did not rebound consistently, but overall they played with a lot of heart and I could not be more proud,” said the coach. Scorers for Brady: Tiffany Williams 9, Erica Longoria 14, Katherine Ramon 5, Monique Holloway 3, Lauren Pittman 2 and Erica Quintero 4. The Brady 8th B team also brought home a victory as they used a strong second half to seal up a 27-11 victory over Llano. Trailing by two at the half, the Brady girls kicked things into gear and scored six unanswered points in the third quarter. They put the game away in the fourth by racking up 13 points on offense and holding Llano to a lone free throw. “We started off a little slow, but in the second half, we turned things around and ended up with over 20 steals,” said coach Kilgore. “Ashley Hext was one of the top scorers for the team with three two-point buckets, one three pointer and one free throw. Camille Poe had five buckets and one free throw. Scorers for Brady: Heather Delafuente 4, Hext 10, Poe 11 and Chelsea Brown 2.
