Lady Bulldogs succumb to Llano in district opener

Llano’s three-point shooting did the Lady Bulldogs “in”, Brady coach Ted Epley said, as his team opened the District 26-3A race in Llano last Friday. The Lady Yellowjackets, a team that made it to the Final Four in Austin last year, won handily, 66-35, after trailing by two after the first quarter. “I was proud of our effort,” Epley said as the Lady Dawgs slipped to 2-17 for the season. “We came out and competed well. Llano is just pretty good.” The Brady coach said his squad held Llano’s all-state center to eight points under her average. “But it was those three-pointers that hurt. They netted seven for the evening,” he said. The coach said his team still made too many turnovers (25) to win. “I believe we’ll cut those down the next time we play. We have a huge game Tuesday (tonight) in Burnet. It’s not a ‘do-or-die’ one, but it’s pretty important,” he said. Jennifer Valdez paced the Brady team against Llano, scoring 17 points.
