Brady gridder wins ‘All State’ mention

January 10-13, 1961 Danny Williams, the Brady Bulldogs’ chunky tackle and linebacker, won honorable mention last week for All-State AA honors. A 176-pound junior, Williams caught the eye of many sportswriters, fans and coaches during the Bulldogs’ 1960 football season. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W.O. Williams. From his linebacker’s spot Williams averaged 17 tackles or assists per game, making him the leader in that department. The All-State AA team was selected by members of the Texas Sportswriters Association. Refreshments and cold drinks, cake and candy were served to the honoree, her mother, Mrs. W.A. Hicks, Mrs. Curtis Street, Misses Brenda Shuffield, Sandra Bryson, Linda Bradham, Carlene Brown, Elene Corder, Diana Williamson, Jackie Bowman, Joyce Sommerfeld, and Mrs. Dan Gandy, Mrs. Forest Hanson and Misses Frances Behrens and Ann Gault. * * * G.A. Crawfords celebrate 50th wedding anniversary Mr. and Mrs. G.A. Crawford celebrated their golden wedding anniversary Sunday, Jan. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m. with open-house at the Brady Country Club. Their children and families were hosts. Mrs. Don Pettingill of Tucson, Ariz., her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Crawford, their son and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Marion Crawford of Fort Worth, received the guests as they arrived. A white linen cloth covered the serving table, and an arrangement of gold flowers was centered with a handpainted plate bearing the inscription, “50th Wedding Anniversary.” Mrs. Arthur Zimmerman, Austin, Mrs. Fred Zimmerman, Fort Worth, and Mrs. Earl Barton, Eola, assisted in serving and registering the relatives and guests. * * * Mercury News Mrs. J.R. Beasley suffered an acute attack a few weeks ago, seemed to be improving, but is reported seriously ill again. Guests in the Mrs. Jim McBee home for Christmas dinner were Mr. and Mrs. Pete McBee, Mr. and Mrs. Odell McBee, Pat and Larry, Del Rio; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Nyfler, Austin; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Mayfield, Mr. and Mrs. Bernie McBee, Verda and Arian, Harold McBee, Brenda and Debbie. The entire group had supper with Mr. and Mrs. Clois McBee in Brownwood. Mrs. France Adams’ Christmas guests were Miss Peggy Adams, Brownwood; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hudson and children, Odessa; Mr. and Mrs. James Lackey, El Paso; Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pasche, Wichita Falls; the George Nelson and Frank Adams families and the Dana Hendersons. Mrs. Nelson Adams went to Fort Worth to visit her mother, Mrs. Tiny Long. Mr. and Mrs. Leslie Quain, Brady, Mr. and Mrs. Grady Yates had supper with Mrs. George Vick Thursday evening. Mrs. Vick left for Waco Friday morning. Mr. and Mrs. George Murray, San Antonio, came by Friday before Christmas for an overnight visit with the D.S. Pumphreys, then on to Coleman to Dr. J.C. Young’s. On Christmas Day Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Rice joined the Johanson family in a visit and dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Lee Miller. Mr. and Mrs. Andy Patterson of Brady, had Christmas dinner with Mrs. Lula McBee. * * * PERSONAL MENTIONS From Japan to Louisiana S-Sgt. James O. Jones, wife and two daughters, Pam and Donna, arrived in Brady recently after having spent three years in Japan in the Air Force. They flew by jet from Japan to spend the Christmas holidays with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.C. Jones and Mr. and Mrs. John Crawford. S-Sgt. Jones will be stationed in Louisiana for the next several months. * * * Guests of H.D. Bradleys Holiday guests in the home of Mr. and Mrs. H.D.
