Lemuel henry Joiner, 76, of Austin and formerly of San Saba, died Saturday, Dec. 29 in Austin. A memorial service was held Thursday, Jan. 3 at 2 p.m. at Manchaca United Methodist Church, Rev. Teresa Welborn officiating. Born July 12, 1925 in San Saba, he was one of twin boys born to Lemuel Lawson Joiner and Josie May (Low) Joiner. His twin brother, Lowell Frazier Joiner, died at age two. Raised in San Saba, he attended the local schools and graduated in 1943. He graduated from Southwestern University in 1950 with a bachelor of business administration degree. In 1951, he married Margaret Coupland, and together they raised two children. He served 27 years in the United States military and retired in 1972. He worked for the Texas Rehabilitation Commission from 1972 until his final retirement in 1986. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Joiner; a son, William J. Joiner (Jerry) and wife, Sharon; a daughter, Melinda Palousek and husband, Andrew; two grandchildren, Jeron P. Joiner and Jessica P. Joiner; a step-grandchild, Phillip Palousek; a niece and nephew; and close friends, Nancy and John King. In lieu of the usual remembrances, the family requests that memorials be made to the Manchaca United Methodist Church or to the American Cancer Society.
