Laura (GaGa) Sayles of Brady passed away on Sunday, Dec. 30, 2001 in Brady at the age of 100. The family received visitors Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home and the service followed at First Christian Church at 2 p.m. Burial was at Rest Haven Cemetery with Dr. John Stewart conducting the service. GaGa was born on March 22, 1901 to Oliver and Sally (Campbell) Baird in San Gabriel in Milam County. She came to Brady in the 1900s after graduating from Fairview High School. GaGa married Edwin C. Sayles on July 9, 1921 and together the couple had two children, the late Snooks (Sayles) Black and the late Buster Sayles. After arriving in McCulloch County, she worked numerous jobs throughout the years including long stints at the Sayles Boarding House, the telephone company, Carlson Cleaners and the Plateau Motel. Survivors include a daughter-in-law, Gayle Sayles of Brady; four grandchildren, Steve Black and wife, Louleen, of Brady, David Black and wife, Debbie, of San Antonio, Candy Weatherman and husband, Gary, of Brady, and Eddie Sayles and wife, Melissa, also of Brady; a brother, Arch Baird and wife, Mildred, of San Angelo; eight great-grandchildren, Patricia Lively, Stephanie Black, Ryan Black, Whitney Black, Brendan Weatherman, Eric Weatherman, Brenna Sayles and Megan Sayles; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband and her two children preceded her in death. Pallbearers were Steve Black, David Black, Eddie Sayles, Gary Weatherman, Brendan Weatherman, Eric Weatherman and Ryan Black.
