J.B. Blackwood, 66, of Odessa, died Monday, Dec. 31 in Llano. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 4 (today) at 3 p.m. at the Howell Doran Funeral Home in San Saba, with Rev. Dale Strawn officiating. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery. Born Feb. 7, 1935 in San Saba, he was the son of Bob and Bertha Mae Blackwood. He married Wilma Watkins in Odessa on Oct. 21, 1992. He served as a staff sergeant in the United States Army and was a retired oil rig worker. Survivors include his wife, Wilma LaRue (Watkins) Blackwood; three sons, Burt Blackwood, Ben Blackwood and wife, Debbie, and Bryan Blackwood and wife, Becky; three daughters, Becky Layton and husband, David, Barbara Vierus and husband, Lance, and Billie Englemann and husband, Kristopher; three step-sons, Steve, Rickie and David Watkins; a step-daughter, Jackie Dodd; grandchildren, James, Bryan, Josh, Bettie Ann, Amanda, Hilary, Roxanne, Jamie, Shawn, Bryanna, Adian, Avery, Nathan, Crystal, Wendy, Phillip, Stormie, Richard, Daniel, Keanna, Lexie and Ashley; a brother, Dave Blackwood; a sister, Peggy Newbauer and husband, Bob; two nieces, Dale Vinson and husband, David, and Jane Blackwood; a nephew, Bruce Newbauer; a great-niece, Shelby; two great-nephews, Travis and Nicoli; and former wife, Bettie Jo Skaggs Blackwood. He was preceded in death by his parents. The family requests that memorials be made to the Bible Baptist Church in Llano.
