Avert (Windy) Gus Carlson, 78, of Melvin, died Sunday, Dec. 23 in Eden. Graveside services were held Wednesday, Dec. 26 at 2 p.m. in the Melvin Cemetery, with Cary Reed, pastor of the First United Methodist Church of Melvin officiating. Pallbearers were Jamie Carlson, James Bailey, Beau Johnson, Jason Johnson, Rickie Rodrigue and Jimmy Rodrigue. Honorary pallbearers were Otha Fortson, R.L. Hargroves, Raymond Cook, J. Roy Richie and Rusty Allen. Born May 9, 1923 in Elgin, he was the son of Eric and Agnes (Alexander) Carlson. He married Bobbye Ann Morrow on March 23, 1957 in Melvin. An Army veteran of World War II, he was a stock farmer most of his life and was a Mason for over 20 years. Survivors include a son, Jimmy, and wife, Dottie Carlson, of Rochelle; a sister, Lillian Rodrigue of Brady; a brother, Clarence and Dorothy Carlson of Midland; three grandchildren, Jamie Carlson, Heather Bailey and husband, James, all of Tom Bean, and Wendee Carlson of Rochelle; two great-grandchildren, Annie and Ellie Bailey of Tom Bean; and several special nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Bobbye Ann and three brothers, Eric, Tory and Randohl Carlson.
