James William Neal, 79, of Paint Rock, died Tuesday, Dec. 18 at his residence. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at Concho Cemetery, Rev. Ferris Akins officiating. Born Aug. 19, 1922 in Snyder, he was a P38 fighter pilot for the United States Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a retired rancher and soil conservationist and an active member of the First Baptist Church of Paint Rock where he served as deacon teacher. He married Frances La Verne Shelburne in February of 1942. Survivors include his wife, Frances, two sons, William Neal and wife, Susan, of Brady and Robert Neal of Paint Rock; a daughter, Mary Holubec and husband, David, of Melvin; five grandchildren; and two sisters, Virginia White of Snyder and Margaret Judkins or Oregon. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother. The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Paint Rock or the Hospice of San Angelo.
