A strong first three quarters gave the Brady Bulldogs their fifth win of the season at Early Tuesday night, 59-44. The Doggies are 5-6 on the season. “We started off very slowly and traded baskets with them in our half court set, but then we went to a full court trap and forced a number of turnovers and broke the game open for us,” Bulldog coach Shawn Dal-bert said. The Dogs held a 14-10 lead after the first period and were up 27-19 at intermission, but in the third quarter they jumped way ahead with a 20-5 burst that put the Brady lads over the Longhorns, 47-24. From there they cruised to a 15-point victory. “We picked it up defensively which is what we need to happen to have success this season. We still need to be more consistent on offense and knock down the easy shots,” the coach added. “I’m pleased that we are beginning to become a veteran team and play through mistakes and still come out on top,” Dalbert said. Sophomore C.J. Villegas and senior Hunter Wilkinson led the team in scoring with 14 points each. Another sophomore, Cole Whisenhunt, contributed 10 points. The Bulldogs will host a tough Abilene Wylie squad here Friday (tonight) before taking off for the Christmas break. They will be in the Brownwood Basketball Classic starting on Dec. 27.
