Bulldogs show up late against Early, 46-21

The Brady 9th grade girls basketball team traveled to Early to tangle with the Longhorns and fell to the hosting team, 46-21. Despite continued overall improvement in their ball handling skills, the Bulldogs were outmatched by Early. Plagued by many missed shots, the Brady team struggled to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities. “Overall, we continue to improve each week,” said coach Micki Templeton, “but we continue to miss too many easy shots and we fail to capitalize on our shots from the free throw line.” Brady only posted seven field goals, two three point shots and one of 10 from the free throw line The Bulldogs fell behind early in the contest as Early outscored them 10-4 in the first and 11-5 in the second to lead the game 21-9 at the half. The Brady defense came alive in the third period and held the Early offense in check while battling to put points on the board for themselves. “We did not play as well as I would have liked for us to,” said the coach, “I felt like our best quarter as far as offense and defense was in the third. The girls finally got focused on what they wanted to do and did a much better job of running our offense. They also did a better job in the second half of blocking out and getting the rebound on our defensive end. In the first half, we allowed them too many second and third shots on their offense.” Scorers for Brady: Brittany Brown 5, Trista Jeffrey 2, Liana Harper 4, Beth Ross 6 and Rosa Botello 4.
