The Lampasas Badgers basketball tournament was a tough one for the Brady Bulldogs who lost three straight games last weekend. The Dogs are now 4-5 on the season. Brady was matched up with three strong Class 4A schools, and the experience and talent proved too much. In the first round the Doggies fell to Leander, 64-30. Then in the second game, they were defeated by Dripping Springs, 71-39 and in the final round, they were outscored by Lampasas 59-40. “We’ve just got to start knocking down those shots as a team,” Brady coach Shawn Dalbert said. “Our transition defense needs improvement as well. We’re giving up too many easy layups.” The coach said he was pleased with the press of his players. “We just have to begin playing our opponents closer games. We are currently in a phase of not hitting our close-in jump shots while foes are making those,” Dalbert said. Brady played all three games without Johnny Menefield, who re-injured his foot against Ballinger two weeks earlier. Clifton Tally and Hunter Wilkinson were also slowed. The Dogs will be in Early Tuesday (tonight) and will host Abilene Wylie on Friday before taking a few days off for the Christmas holidays. Brady will be back on the hardwood at the Brownwood tournament on Dec. 27 when they will face Killeen Harker Heights in the first round.
