The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Caf’ at the Depot. Student Rotarian Jana Partin was present for her second visit. She informed the members of her intention to attend Texas Tech and major in pre-medicine. President Steve DeFiore informed the club that we would sponsor three Brady High School junior students to the RYLA conference in new Braunfels in January, 2002. They are Megan Schaffner, Thomas Castro and Erin Rainey. Rotarian Lynn Munden, along with Brady High School seniors Chelsea Simpson and Brian Hovorak, will be on the instructional staff. It was also announced that the “Top Ten” banquet will be held May 13, 2002. Program chairman Connie Locklear introduced Tom Bourbon, chief of the Rochelle Volunteer Fire Department. He informed the members of the work that all of the firemen do in the county. Also, he discussed how the different departments are upgrading equipment with donations from the Lower Colorado River Authority, G. Rollie White Foundation and fund-raising programs. He also told how each department from each community helps the others. The $2 bill was won by Steve DeFiore for knowing the name of the guardian angel in “It’s a Wonderful Life,”‘Clarence. The Rotary gift-of-the-month (a Rotary potpourri container) was won by Brad Bowen. Program chairman for Tuesday, Dec. 18 is Martin Leatherwood.
