Less than one week to go and the Brady/McCulloch County Chamber of Commerce is still in need of entries for this year’s annual Christmas lighting contest. This year participants may enter in one of three categories offered: business, residential and past residential winners. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first through third place winners in the residential and business categories. Only a first place cash prize will be awarded in the residential past winners category. The Chamber will award $50 for all first place winners, $35 for second and $20 for third. “Young and old alike enjoy driving through Brady to admire the beautiful Christmas displays,” said Chamber executive vice president DeLaine Poe. To date, only two local businesses, Heart of Texas Check Solutions (above Delta Loans on the downtown square) and Down Home Country Cookin’ (U.S. Hwy. 87 South) have entered in the business category; three have entered in the past winners’ category; and five newcomers have entered in the residential category. “The entries are low right now, explained Mrs. Poe. “We usually get more entries the day before we start judging. They like to wait until the last minute’almost as if they’re waiting to scope out the competition.” For more information or to enter, contact the Chamber at 597-3491 by Monday, Dec. 17 at 5 p.m., and indicate any special requests when entering the contest. Judging will begin Monday night around 6:30 p.m. To sneak a peak at current residential entries, stop by past winners’ homes located at 2109 Stanton, 910 Bombay or Camp San Saba (approximately 10 miles outside of Brady on U.S. Hwy. 87 South). New entries located at 401 East Burns (behind Chevron), 909 North Cypress, 1003 Sagemont or the residential area across from Countryside Feed on the Brownwood highway. The winners of the lighting contest will be listed in the Brady Standard-Herald once they are announced.
