Brady freshman girls play tough, drop pair

The Brady Lady Dog freshman team had a tough go last week as they dropped a pair of matchups to Abilene-Wylie and Fredericksburg in two non-district matchups. In their Tuesday game against Wylie, the opposition used a tenacious defense to upend the Brady attack while putting 56 points on the boards enroute to a 56-18 rout. Despite the score, the Brady coach praised her team for their efforts throughout the entire game. “I know the score doesn’t show it, but I felt like my girls played a good game,” said coach Micki Templeton. “They hustled on the floor and I was extremely proud of our great defense. The did a great job rebounding. “Once we start shooting 50 percent from the free throw line and are able to lower our turnover ratio and make our easy shots, we will put a lot of pressure on our opponents.” Beth Ross led the scoring for the Brady team with 13 points. Other scorers were Brittany Brown 1, Jocelynn Doyal 2 and Brittney Parks 2. “This group of girls works extremely hard every day and they just continue to get better every day. I am proud of them because regardless of the score, they never give up,” said the coach. Score by quarters: Brady 4 3 6 5’18 Wylie 10 14 17 15’56 In the Friday night game against Fredericksburg, a weak offensive showing in the middle quarters led to the Brady girls’ second loss of the week, 47-19. “We had a good first and fourth quarters where we did a great job on both offense and defense, but the second and third quarters were a bit different,” said the coach. “We just could not make our shots. We did a good job of working the ball to our inside person, but once again, we could not make the easy shots. “On defense, we didn’t block out very well and missed some rebounds. When you allow a team to shoot the ball three and four times on their offensive end, you are going to have problems.” The Billies from Fredericksburg shut down the Brady offense in the second and third quarters and allowed only three total points in those two periods. “We are still turning the ball over too much, but I still think we did some great things tonight,” said Templeton. Score by quarters: Brady 9 2 1 7’19 F. burg 14 12 13 8’47 Scorers for Brady: Brown 2, Trista Jeffrey 2, Sandra Ibarra 1, Ross 6, Parks 4 and Rosa Botello 4.
