Rotary Spokes

The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday at noon at the Caf’ at the Depot. President Steve De Fiore introduced Jerry Betsill, who is with the Library Association. He explained the proposed library expansion of 1,500 square feet, which will cost about $181,000. He asked the Rotarians to consider helping on this project. The Rotary Student of the Month is Jana Partin. She is the daughter of Joe and Georgina Partin. Jana is a member of the Flag Corps, plays the French horn in band, is on the student council, a member of the National Honor Society and plays basketball and softball. She is listed in Who’s Who Among American High School Students, was Texaco Star of the Week, first team all-district softball, received the Golden Glove Award, was voted Best Personality of Class, attended the Lion’s Honor Banquet for three years, served as Homecoming Duchess and is currently serving as Miss Heart of Texas. Her leadership roles include flag captain, basketball co-captain, softball co-captain, freshmen class president and vice president of National Honor Society. Her future plans are to attend a major university and become an obstetrician. Her college choice is undecided. She does plan to major in Pre-Med (biochemistry). Jenny Roberts, North Ward Principal, was inducted as the newest Rotarian. Program chairman Clay Jones, who is a member of the Heart of Texas Memorial Board, discussed the status of the hospital. He explained that we have a working board, a good administration and a good group of doctors. We have both inpatient and outpatient surgery. The hospital is financially sound. He also commended the nurses and staff, plus the help from the hospital auxiliary. The $2 bill was won by president Steve for being the first to say that the School of Wizardry was named “Hogwarts.” The Rotary Board will meet at noon on Dec. 4. The Dec. 4 Rotary Meeting will be at 7 p.m. at the Willow Creek Caf’ in Mason for its annual Christmas party.
