Lady Bulldogs notch narrow win over SS, lose to Sonora

Brady’s Lady Bulldogs split a pair of non-district basketball games prior to the Thanksgiving holiday break. They defeated San Saba, 51-50, away last Tuesday then were defeated by Sonora here on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 68-48. It was a narrow one against the Lady Dillos, and Brady coach Ted Epley was elated after the contest. “It was a great game,” he said. “Our ladies hung tough against a very good San Saba bunch, who will be in the playoffs in February. Every member of our team contributed. It was a team win.” Krystal Jacoby paced the Brady scoring, putting 14 points through the net. She was only two of eight from the field, but she converted 10 of 14 free throw attempts. Jennifer Valdez was two of seven from the field, but she too was outstanding from the line, hitting eight of 10 tries. The team shot only 36 percent from the field (12 of 33) and only shot once from the three-point arc, missing that one. However, from the charity stripe, they were 71 percent, making 27 of 38 attempts. After playing well the night before, we were just out of gas against Sonora. I thought Kesley Bailey and Stacy Lohn really improved. We’ll need their help from the bench as district gets here,” Epley said. Sonora led at halftime, 30-20, but stretched that to 52-28 after three quarters. Valdez led the team in scoring with 15 points while Lohn added 10 points. “I’m proud of this bunch of girls and the improvement they’ve made since the first game. We just need to keep getting better every day. The district season will be here before we know it,” the coach said. Epley said the Lady Dawgs will meet Mason here Tuesday (tonight), and will be in the Ballinger tourney on Thursday where his team will meet the No. 1 team in Class 1A, Wall, in the first round.
