Lady Dragons edge past Lady Dogs by 65-59

Brady’s Lady Bulldogs dropped their first basketball game of the young season here last Friday night to Bangs, 65-59. The Lady Dawgs are 1-1 while Bangs is 2-0. “We fell just a little short,” Brady coach Ted Epley said. “I’m very proud of this team. They fought hard.” He added that the Brady squad had a number of shots that “went in and came out” and many calls that went against them. Bangs shot 39 free throws while the Lady Dawgs had only 11. “We had two girls foul out, and three others were playing with four,” Epley said. “And we still almost pulled this one out.” Bangs took a 16-13 lead after the first period and the Lady Dragons were up by a 35-28 margin at intermission before the Brady girls rallied in the third quarter to close to within four points. “We trailed almost the entire game, as many as nine points at times, but we fought back to a one-point contest with three and one-half minutes left,” the Brady coach said. He said that Bangs just made the shots down the stretch. Kayce Pollok, hot from the three-point arc, paced the Brady scorers with 25 points. She was six of 12 from the arc. The Lady Dawgs shot 30 percent from the field (15 of 49), 25 percent from three-point range (8 of 32) and were five of 11 from the line (45 percent). “We play a very good San Saba bunch there on Tuesday (tonight), and then will host a fine Sonora team on Wednesday, Nov. 21. Both will be a test for us,” Epley said.
