Gloria family to host Thanksgiving dinner

In a fantasy world, there would be ample food for Thanksgiving with little hassle and absolutely no clean-up. The Kathy and Arturo Gloria family and El Flamingo Restaurant are doing their part to offer area residents a chance to enjoy a home-cooked Thanksgiving meal without all the hassle. The local restaurant will once again offer its authentic home-cooked turkey dinner complete with all the trimmings for Thanksgiving. If you are in the mood to relax this holiday season and enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, head to El Flamingo. Served Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., this marks the fifth year that the Gloria family has hosted the traditional meal. The meal is free to everyone, but donations are accepted. All proceeds will be donated to the McCulloch County Helping Hands Toys for Tots program. Toys for Tots strives to reward numerous less fortunate McCulloch County children with a little special holiday cheer each Christmas. “Our first priority with this meal is to share our meal with others and give something back to the community,” said Mrs. Gloria. “We want to pass our customer’s donations on to a worthy cause.” Last year, the Glorias raised several thousand dollars for Toys for Tots and served an estimated 600 people. Many of the food items were donated from area churches and individual donors. “We raised a little over $3,000 last year, and we hope that we can top that this year,” said Mrs. Gloria. “This event not only helps the children of our community but it also helps our senior citizens. After the children have been taken care of, gifts are purchased for local seniors. Helping Hands serves and assists a lot of local seniors and sees this as a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge them.” Numerous volunteers donate their time and efforts by hand delivering meals to those who are unable to make it to the restaurant. “We serve until 2 p.m. and then our family sits down and has our own family dinner. We welcome anyone who wants to come and enjoy a good home-cooked meal. You don’t have to donate, but money is always welcome. If you are home-bound, call Helping Hands up until Wednesday, Nov. 21 or call the restaurant on Thanksgiving Day.” Orders can be placed in advance by calling the Helping Hands Center at 597-2646 or El Flamingo restaurant at 597-0522.
