The four Brady Middle School boys’ basketball teams swept Llano in four games on Thursday, Nov. 15. Playing in Llano, the 8th Gold A team downed the Yellowjackets, 32-25. “We played as well as we could after only one week of practice,” Coach Mike Nu’ez said. “Offensively, we missed too many easy baskets that could have opened up a pretty sizeable lead.” Defensively, the coach said the team did a decent job of covering up the shooter but need to do a better job of blocking out after the shot. “We did a good job on the defensive press and handled the ball well. We simply need more gym time to improve our shots,” Nu’ez said. Justin Villarreal and Trevor Rainey led the team in scoring with 10 points each. Other scorers were Jay Behrens 2, Bryan Boyd 2, Jeffrey Bierman 2, Carlos Sanchez 2 and Adrian Sanchez 4. The team jumped to a 9-0 first quarter lead and led all the way. “I was pleased with the effort given by each player,” coach Mike Nu’ez said. “We were pretty rusty with our shots, missing some inside, and we weren’t patient in our offensive.” Defensively, however, the team did a good job moving around the floor and causing turnovers, the coach said. Zach Hepburn led the team in scoring with eight points. Other scorers were Felipe Bernal 4, Justin Beard 3, Shelby Miller 6. The 7th A wanted revenge from a loss in football, according to coach Oscar Villa. “We had a full court press on all night long, and it paid off. We wanted to start the basketball season on the right foot, and we did,” he said. Brady scorers were Brandon Lombrano 2, Dustin Tally 12, Bryan Harris 13, Wade Skaggs 4, Holden Jacoby 8 and Sammy Telford 2. In the 7th grade B game, Villa said that the team also ran a full court press very effectively. “It was working well, and we converted several points off of it,” he said.
