Looking for a enjoyable way to handle the pain and stress of every day life’ Learn to laugh it away. A Pain Management Workshop is scheduled to be held at the First Christian Church, 210 East Second Street in Brady on Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. until 12 noon. The Therapeutic Use of Humor will be addressed from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m in a second workshop session. ‘Every person must address pain management during their life. This workshop will assist the community and medical professionals in understanding the problem of pain and principles of pain therapy,’ said Martha Williams, a registered nurse at Brady’s Central Texas College (CTC) Vocational Nursing program. ‘The program will contribute to quality care for the patient and comfort for the their family.” The workshop is sponsored by the Heart of Texas Hospital, CTC Vocational Nursing, the University of Texas (UT) Arlington School of Nursing and Rural Health Outreach Program. Guest speaker for the workshop will be Linda Schickedanz, RN, a clinical nurse specialist and educator with the UT Arlington School of Nursing. She has 20 years of experience in oncology nursing and will provide information on pain management. The workshop on therapeutic use of humor will cover humor as a coping mechanism for patients and nurses, and the benefits of humor. A laughter exercise will also be conducted. Cost for each workshop to the general public is $5 payable at the door. Professionals in the medical field wanting contact credit hours (4.0 for the Pain Management and 1.2 for Therapeutic Use of Humor) will be charged $15 for each workshop payable at the door or in advance by mailing in a pre-registration form.
