Rotary Spokes

The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, Oct. 30 at the Brady Middle School Cafeteria. Leah Vickers, student Rotarian, was present for her second visit. She informed the members of her intentions to attend Texas Tech and major in arts and sciences and go into nursing. She also informed us of the Interact Club organizing a bike-a-thon to be held in December to raise money for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Program chairman Dayton Boren introduced his wife, Virginia. She shared human interest stories that pertained to airlines, pilots, passengers and flight attendants immediately following the Sept. 11 attack. Their daughter, Gayle, is a flight attendant for American Airlines. Aside from the regular duties of the airline employees, she told of how the passengers were taken care of when all planes were grounded. Also, when the passengers were removed from the planes and housed in hotels and private homes: bonding took place’people helping people’friendships were made that will last a lifetime. Aren’t we glad we live in the United States of America’ The $2 bill was won by Dayton Boren for being lucky handshaker number one. Program chairman for Nov. 6 is Brad Bowen.
