The Brady eighth grade football teams took to the field last Thursday against the Liberty Hill Panthers and lost two defensive battles, 14-12 for the Gold team and 14-0 for the Black team. In the Gold team’s game, Brady’s Marcus Gonzales scored in the first quarter on a pass from Michael Land from eight yards out. The PAT failed and the Doggies led 6-0. The Bulldogs expanded their lead to 12 just a few minutes later when Trevor Rainey scampered 60 yards behind the blocking of Ryan Pena and Daniel McAnally. The PAT failed, but the Bulldogs were up 12-0. The defensive units for both teams took control in the second quarter as neither offense was able to make it into the end zone. A temporary lapse in special teams coverage for the Bulldogs allowed the Panthers a 75-yard return for a touchdown. The PAT failed and Liberty Hill trailed 12-6. A defensive battle held both teams scoreless until the Panthers managed a three-yard score with only :50 left on the clock to tie the game. The PAT attempt was good and the Panthers snatched the victory, 14-12. Offensive standouts for the Bulldogs were Rainey, Pena, McAnally, Gonzales and Andrew Harris. H The Bulldog eighth grade Black team saw yet another defensive struggle as both teams went back and forth for the entire first half unable to make a score. Liberty Hill put their first touchdown on the board from 50 yards out early in the third period. A successful two-point conversion gave them an 8-0 lead. The visiting panthers once again made it into the end zone in the fourth quarter, but failed to convert the PAT and the game ended with Liberty Hill on top, 14-0. Offensive standouts for Brady were Ryan Woods, Josh Potter, Mario Paromo, Dale Boyd and B.J. Campbell. Defensive standouts were Zach Hepburn, Justin Villarreal, Joel Moreno and Patrick Bara.
