Donald George Cavins Sr., 63, of Brady, died Monday, Oct. 29 in San Angelo. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31 at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels. Burial will follow in Galt Cemetery in Galt, Calif., at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2. Born Nov. 2, 1937, in Merced, Calif., he was the son of Levi Cavins and Edith Elizabeth (Still) Cavins. He married Sally Miller on Dec. 2, 1956, in Lincoln, Neb., and later married Linnie Marie Covey on May 8, 1992 in Leander. He opened Don’s Smog & Tune Up, in 1960 in Galt, Calif., a smog testing business which he operated until 2000 when he retired and moved to Brady. He was a Christian and loved to fish. Survivors include his wife, Linnie Marie Cavins of Brady; a son, Donald George Cavins Jr., and wife, Martha, of Galt, Calif.; a daughter, Susan Clooney and husband, Kaai, of Seattle, Wash.; five stepsons, Frank Hyden and wife, Jeannie, of Liberty Hill, David Hyden and wife, Vanessa, of Leander, Robert Hyden and wife, Natalie, of Leander, Tim Hyden and wife, Tracy, of Brady and John Hyden and wife, Carolyn of Brady; a stepdaughter, Louis McFarland and husband, Jerry, of Brady; two brothers, Larry Cavins and Jerry Cavins, both of California; 20 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Sally Miller Cavins and a brother.
