After falling behind 14-0 in the early part of Thursday’s game against the Ozona JV, the Bulldog freshmen came storming back with three successive touchdowns in the second and third quarters to bring home a 22-20 victory. The Brady defense added to the game-winning efforts by stopping the Ozona team on several goal-line stands. The first defensive stand came in the closing seconds of the first half when the Doggies held true inside the red zone and kept Ozona from taking a lead just before the half. The defense pulled through again in the fourth quarter on a two-point conversion attempt that would have tied the game. Ozona’s last attempt to win the game was again thwarted by the Brady defense as they again denied them a trip to the end zone in the closing seconds of the game. Offensively for the Bulldogs, Channing Booker posted another kickoff return for a touchdown, this time from 85 yards away. A two-point conversion pass from quarterback Paden Behrens to Gilbert Rodriguez brought the score to 14-8 late in the second period. Brady hit the endzone again just before halftime on a four yard touchdown run by Behrens. The PAT failed and the teams broke for intermission tied at 14. The key points in the game turned out to be a two point conversion that followed their next touchdown which came on a 13-yard run by Cooper Bagheri. Booker punched in the two point converion and the Dogs led 22-14. Ozona threatened to tie the game with a six-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, but a strong defensive stand on the PAT denied Ozona a tied game. “Our defense played well and made several goalline stands,” said coach Tim Kilgore. “John Vara, Chris Castleman, Chris Mata and Jesse Saez all played well defensively.” The Bulldogs will play Ingram Thursday night when they host the Warriors at Bulldog Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m.
