The McCulloch County 4-H rifle club hosted its first annual shoot recently. Due to scheduling conflicts, several area rifle clubs were unable to attend leaving three McCulloch shooters battling for top honors. Molly Gage, Bodie Landes and Nolen Landes each took their shooting abilities to the line and posted respectable scores for the year-old club. In shooting three positions, prone, kneeling and offhand, Gage posted the highest score of 209 out of a possible 300. Bodie Landes was second with a 195 followed by Nolen with a 124. “We are planning on hosting another shoot in December that will draw some other teams,” said club instructor Gene Nelson. Nelson also stated that there has been some interest in starting an adult rifle club that could become competitive in various meets. Based upon interest expressed by area shooters, a club could be organized that coached and shot as a team in a variety of shooting disciplines. Anyone interested in becoming a member of an adult rifle club is encouraged to contact Nelson at 597-1592 for more information.
