ROTARY SPOKES

The Brady Rotary Club met Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 12 noon at the Caf’ at the Depot. Student Rotarian Leah Vickers was present for her first visit. The daughter of Dr. Lonnie and Debbie Vickers, she is a member of the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ. She plays an active role in Interact, Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), Future Teachers of America (FTA), band, Brady Student Chamber of Commerce, National Honor Society and SPOOKS. She is on the A honor roll, attended the Lion’s Honor Banquet and the Rotary International Youth Conference/Exchange in Piedras Negras, Mexico. She is currently the FCCLA executive vice president and was a FCCLA reporter her sophomore and junior years. She has been secretary for the Brady Student Chamber of Commerce for the past two years and is currently the NHS secretary. Also, she serves as the president of Interact and vice president of the Famed Brady Bulldog Band. She plans to attend Texas Tech University in Lubbock in the fall of 2002 where she plans to major in arts and sciences undeclared. H Aleta Kimbrough of the McCulloch County United Way was a guest. Don Finkenkeller of Wal-Mart was also a guest. Program Chairman Jeanagayle Behrens introduced Kevin McCarthy, president of the Concho Valley United Way. He explained how the United Way works to help a community. We do need local volunteers, we do raise money and we do distribute where needed on the “home front.” United Way certificates of appreciation were presented to Wal-Mart and to Brady Independent School District for their participation in United Way in 2000. Program chairman for Oct. 30 is Dayton Boren. The Rotary meeting on Oct. 30 will be at Brady Middle School. The Rotary Christmas party has been scheduled for Dec. 4 at the Willow Creek Restaurant in Mason.
