Rochelle Hornets cross country team advances

Sprinting back into action, the Rochelle Hornets boys cross country team took first place in the District 15-A meet. The team, consisting of Romano Vargas, Alex Vargas, Cody Garza, Dakota Eckert and Luis Gomez, took first place with 48 points while the team from Trent came in second with 58 points. The win boosts the boys cross country team into regional competition scheduled for Nov. 3. Also qualifying for regionals in the high school girls division was Tanda Cook with a fifth place finish. Placing for the junior varsity girls team was Alisha Slone with a first place finish; Erica Roueche, fourth; Brayla Bratton, fifth; and Shana Roberts, sixth. The boys and girls cross country teams from Rochelle Junior High took first place in a recent competition as well. The junior high girls team consists of Elisha Estes, Casey Shackelford, Becca Willmann, Amber Gossett, Heather Sanders and Alyssa Garretson. Running for the boys team is Tommy Huerta, James Baker, Andrew Engdahl, Clayton Williams, Bo Stuart, Rex Stidham, Rollie Evans, Gage Rose, Zach Pitcox, Ryan Adams, Will Scantlin and Trey Clevenger “It was a good job by all of our runners,” said Rochelle coach Joe Johanson. “I am very proud of what they did this year, especially at the district meet.”
