Sales tax report shows marked increase in local retail sales

City of Brady sales tax revenues increased a remarkable 17.3% in the first quarter of 2001 as compared to first quarter 2000, according to a regular report issued by State Comptroller Carole Keeton Rylander. In a report issued last month, McCulloch County recorded gross sales in the first quarter this year of $37,458,150 as compared to $31,926,255 one year ago. In the report, state sales and use tax for the retail trade division showed a 44.2% increase with gross sales of $22,915,616 in first quarter 2001 up from $15,896,686 in first quarter 2000. Neighboring Mason County saw a decrease in gross sales of 11.1% and reported sales of $6,938,928’down from $7,805,420 in first quarter 2000. Other area counties showed the following percent changes: Burnet 6.10% Coleman 11.30% Comanche 3.10% Lampasas 4.30% Llano 4.50% Menard -2.00% San Saba 4.70%
