The Brady eighth grade B team traveled to Brownwood recently to take on the Lions and used a total team effort to bring home an 18-6 victory. The Bulldogs took the opening drive down the field 50 yards and punched in the first score of the night. Big runs by Zach Hepburn and good blocking on the front line led to a 15-yard touchdown pass by Justin Villarreal to Bryan Woods. The two-point conversion attempt failed and the Dogs led 6-0. The Bulldog defense then took to the field and put the Lions in a punting situation. On fourth down, Woods blocked the Brownwood punt which was recovered by Hepburn at the Lion 35 yard line. Four plays later, Hepburn scampered in from the six to put the Doggies up 12-0. Brownwood looked to make a comeback in the second half of the game when on the first play from scrimmage after the break, a Lion ball carrier broke tackles and ran 55 yards for what would ultimately be their only score of the night. After trading series again, the Bulldogs mounted a time consuming drive and marched 65 yards down the field. Then from the Brownwood 20, Hepburn again headed into the end zone on a run around the right side. The two point conversion again failed and the Dogs led 18-6. The Lions took the ensuing kickoff and marched 65 yards down the field to the Brady three where the young Doggies mounted a goal-line stand and held the Lions on four consecutive plays. “The team played very well tonight,” said coach Clint DuBose. “The defense was hitting and the offense was clicking. We played a team-oriented game and the guys had fun. We had big plays from a lot of people. “Wilson Rivera caused a fumble that was recovered by Matt Dean, Patrick Bara caused a fumble that was recovered by Joel Moreno and Justin Villarreal forced a fumble that was recovered by Moreno,” said the coach. “Our offensive line of Anthony Valencia, Anthony Alfaro, Dean, Josh Potter, Henry Reyes and Mario Paramo opened and sealed the defense to allow big runs by Raul Gloria, B.J. Campbell and Hepburn. On defense, Roberts, Reyes, Valencia, Villarreal, Woods and Moreno all had strong games. The young Dogs will play Liberty Hill at home on Thursday.
