Young Hornets too tough for competition

The young swarm of Hornets are quickly making their presence known around the six-man stomping grounds. Boasting a 4-1 season record, the Junior High Hornets have set themselves up as “the team to beat.” The Hornets pulled out a 20-12 victory over the Richland Springs Coyotes last Thursday night in Rochelle. The score from the first half didn’t show the sheer determination to win by the Hornets with the halftime final 2-0 in favor of Rochelle. The two points hailed from a quarterback sack. The Hornets gained two points from the safety created by Rochelle’s Zach Pitcox. In the third quarter, it was James Baker with a throw to Pitcox for a 47 yard completion and first Hornet TD of the game. The fourth quarter saw Rex Stidham complete a 40-yard run for a touchdown followed by Gage Rose with a seven-yard TD run to bring the game to a close, 20-12. Baker passed for 67 total yards and was the leading tackler with seven tackles followed by Bo Stuart with six. Pitcox and Rose each accounted for five tackles each. The Junior High Hornets are open this Thursday night but will travel to Cherokee Oct. 25 for a 7 p.m. kick-off.
