1960 was a good year for basketball at Rochelle

Rochelle had a better-than-average basketball team in 1960-61. I was coaching then and we won district that year. We would scrimmage Brady and it was a close contest. Ed Whitely was coaching Brady then. After we won our district, we had to play Jim Ned in Ballinger. They showed us what basketball was all about and beat us, 102-67. The same night Belton beat Brady by the same score. Jim Ned lost in the state finals, 87-86. Basketball players from the 1960-61 school year at Rochelle were (left to right) Ray Doyal, Gaylon Cowan, Lynn Banks, Ronnie Nowlin, John McDonald, Pee Wee Brown and Tootsie Mitchell.
