The Howard Kilmer Post 510 of the American Legion and Auxiliary met for their regularly scheduled business meetings on Tuesday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m. at the Post home. A social hour was enjoyed by 16 members. Juanita Kinczel and Janet Harlow were hostesses for the evening. Commander Hilmer Krucken-meyer conducted the American Legion meeting. Clyde and Wynell Chesney, building improvement chairmen, announced plans for a workday at which time the outside of the building would be painted. President Peggy Ross conducted the Auxiliary’s meeting. The charter was draped in memory of deceased member, Nona Lloyd, a Gold Star mother. A love offering for the cancer research fund was collected in her memory. June Long, chairman of the Brady Goat Cook-Off booth, reported on the success of the booth. She thanked all members for contributing home baked items and for the time spent at the booth during the day. Also reports were given on the National Convention held in San Antonio Aug. 23-30. Attending the convention from Unit 510 were Fay Knutson, June Long and Peggy Ross. Mrs. Long, Mrs. Ross and J. R. and Sadie Cawyer, representing Post 510, attended the 83rd Department Convention held in Wichita Falls on July 11 – 13. Commander Jim Young and President Shirley Hill conducted the business meetings. Distinguished guest speaker for the Legion was National Commander Ray G. Smith of North Carolina. June Meek, Southern Division National Vice President, addressed the Auxiliary. During the convention, Conrad Roberson was elected commander for the 2001-02 year. Department Auxiliary officers elected for 2001-02 were: Betty Rohan, president; Nina Swink, vice president; Patricia Spivey, historian; Sandra Wagner, chaplain and Kay Lavendar, sergeant-at-arms. The October business meetings of the Legion and Auxiliary will be held Tuesday, October 9 at the Post home at 7 p.m. The social hour will begin at 6 p.m.
