The Mane Lion

Lion 2nd VP Mike Barbour led last Thursday’s Brady Lions Club meeting, since the two top ‘cats’ had to be absent. Lion Pres. Ronnie Gassiot was on a vacation trip, and Lion 1st VP Randy Richards was contemplating a possible hospital stay. I haven’t talked with Lion Ronnie since then, but I’ve checked on Lion Randy, and I’m glad to report that he’s okay. The day’s program was our District Governor Lion Sabino Garcia of San Angelo. Gov. Garcia brought information about several programs of Lions Clubs International. He also stated that Multi-District 2 (that’s the State of Texas) would be fielding a candidate for Lions International President. Among the projects mentioned, Lion Sabino included the ‘Buy a Brick’ effort to build a new facility for the Leader Dog School in Michigan. He also made a plea for everyone (including you who are reading this) to sign your drivers licenses as eye donors. The Lions Eye Banks are instrumental in getting corneas to recipients so that they can see, again. The District Governor presented some awards to local Lions while he was here. President’s Bronze Certificates were given to Lions Ronnie Gassiot, Robert Barnhill, James Long and Rick Melcer (that’s me) for recruiting new members into the organization. I will express my appreciation to the Governor through this column, as I had to be out of town last Thursday. I also thank our Lion Secretary Louise Long for sharing the official minutes so that I could tell all of you what’s going on, as the Brady Lions Club fulfills the motto ‘We Serve.’
