Texas Federation of Women’s Clubs Heart of Texas District president Shirley Kennedy was special guest speaker for the Rochelle Study Club October meeting. The meeting was held at the Rochelle Community Center on Monday Oct. 1. Hostesses Betty Bourbon and Clova Bryson served a delicious variety of finger foods from tables decorated in a fall colors. Club president Pat Baker led the group in singing the Federation Song. Clova Bryson led the reading of the Federation Creed and the American Creed. Mrs. Kennedy related news of the State Meeting held in San Angelo and thanked club members for their efforts in supplying decorations and door prizes. She told of district activities and answered questions from the floor. She issued an invitation to the Heart of Texas Fall Board Meeting to be held in Sterling City on Oct. 13. Reservations must reach district treasurer Betty Meyer by Oct. 11. Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Mabel Jones substituting for secretary Pat Townsend who was unable to attend the meeting. Treasurer’s financial statement was read by treasurer Betty Meyer. Federation advisor Maedell Long reported that all three of the scholarship recipients from our district are in college. They include Cristin Eckert of Rochelle and Jessica Hahn of Mason who received the Fisk-Perry Scholarship and Patrick Dudley of Comanche who received the Billy Lindley McMahon Scholarship. Members were reminded that next month’s meeting will be held on Nov. 5 and will feature Jane and Bruce Coggin discussing the book “A Soul Housed Up”, a collection of the writings of Ethel Neal Yeager. Mrs. Yeager was Jane Coggin’s mother and Bruce Coggin’s grandmother. Many of the people mentioned in the book will be familiar to those who live in Rochelle. Members were also reminded to bring non perishable foods for the Helping Hands Thanksgiving pantry to the November meeting.
