Behrens travels to D.C. on CTC trip

Broadening her horizons, Brady High School Senior Jenna Behrens recently participated in a week-long trip to Washington D.C. as the winner of the 2001 Central Texas Telephone Cooperative essay contest. Sponsored by local telephone cooperatives, the trip was made in June and was designed to give the contest winners the opportunity to learn about telecommunications in the U.S. and around the world. While in D.C. the groups met telecommunications officials and telephone company employees including John Winston from the enforcement bureau of the Federal Communications Commission. As part of the trip, Ms. Behrens was able to participate in tours throughout Washington D.C. and visit places like the Air and Space Museum, the Smithsonian and the ESPN Zone Restaurant. As part of a friendly competition, groups of individuals performed skits on different eras. Ms. Behrens’ group won the contest with their rendition of life during the 1930s. “Overall the trip was great,” said Behrens. “I learned so many things, met tons of people and got to exeperence Washington D.C. We are already planning a reunion. I can’t thank Central Texas Telephone Cooperative enough for giving me such a great opportunity.”
