The Rochelle Hornets racked up 415 yards and overcame an early deficit to defeat the Veribest Falcons there last Friday night, 58-12, in a non-district six-man football game. The Hornets are now 1-2 on the season. Jamey Williams paced the Rochelle attack by scoring six touchdowns, five rushing (on runs of 45, 5, 5, 15, and 15) and a fumble recovery in the end zone. The Falcons jumped out to a 12-8 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Hornets took control and led at halftime, 36-12, by scoring 28 points in the second period. Eddie Teague scored a touchdown on a 40-yard pass from Williams and Patrick Roberts also scored late in the game on a three-yard run. Williams’ final TD, a 15-yarder, ended the game because of the 45-point rule. Williams had 16 carries for 181 yards. “I was real proud of this group of players,” Rochelle Coach Tommy Meredith said. “Everyone that was called on gave a great effort. This was a big win for us.” The coach said Alex Vargas led the defensive play with 13 tackles and four fumble recoveries. TK Morris had 10 tackles and Kodi Cook had nine.
