Funeral services for Lee (Pete) Voigt, 75, of Carlsbad, N. Mex., and formerly of the Lohn area, were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 at the First Baptist Church in Carlsbad. His son, Pastor Joe Pierce of Loving Assembly of God, officiated, assisted by Pastor Bob Bacon of the First Baptist Church. Burial was in Carlsbad Cemetery. Mr. Voigt died Sunday, Sept. 16 in Carlsbad. He was a cousin of Conley Purcell of Brady. Denton-Funchess Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Born April 24, 1926, to Willie C. Voigt and Ethel Murchinson Voigt in Houston, he was raised on a farm in Red Rock, Tex. During World War II, he was a welder in the shipyards of Houston. In 1947, he moved to Carlsbad where he worked as a welder for U.S. Potash until 1959 when he became the owner and operator of Voigt Auto Sales. He worked at that business until his death. He married Ruth Messer in 1947. She preceded him in death in 1955. He married Wilma Johnson on Feb. 2, 1957 in Carlsbad. Survivors include his wife; a son, Joe Pierce; two daughters, Trish Towery of Midland and Zolene Knott of Carlsbad; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
